Welcome! To you and your child

When children are baptised, we say

"We welcome you into the Lord's family".

Children are never too young to come to church. At church we belong to one big family and we want you to know that you are all very welcome.

We do realise that bringing children, especially babies and toddlers, to church can be very hard work. If a baby cries it always seems that yours is the loudest.

If toddlers get restless and want to walk about or do something different, the minute you try to stop them the more determined they become and start trying to get away.

We want you and your children to enjoy being in church, so we have set aside part of the church as a crèche area with toys and things to do and many of our regular children make a bee-line for it as soon as they arrive.

There is a helper in the area so that you can be assured that your child is safe while you sit close by in the pew.
Don't be embarrassed if your baby cries. We all understand that babies have special (and urgent) needs and if you try to stop him/her, it usually gets worse. If this happens do what you would do if you were at home. Get up and walk around. We have chairs at the back of the church where you can sit while feeding your baby. If your baby needs changing, a sidesman will show you into the choir vestry and help you restore happiness.

If you are attending a service of Holy Communion, take your baby with you to receive a blessing.

By being in church and with the Lord's family, your baby is already starting on a journey of faith.
