All Saint's Outreach Fund Committee

Quite a lot has happened since we last updated our web page, not least being our change of name. We felt that people had preconceived ideas about Missionary Giving which did not match our intentions. Outreach is simply about trying to find and help people who are in need.

For 2007, we supported the following three charities.

THE AMOS TRUST (www.amostrust.org)

The Amos Trust is committed to justice and hope for the forgotten. Amos aims to encourage those who are oppressed and who live in forgotten situations, and also to inspire others through story and song - and a theology - that has been sharpened by our partners from around the world to develop a commitment to justice. Through supporting Amos, and the partners with whom we are linked, you will find a great opportunity to be encouraged and to learn. We hope that together we can continue to witness to the love, justice and compassion of God. Working from a modest office with a small staff, Amos aims to keep administration costs down and channel the greatest amount of help where it is needed most. Amos' simple approach is friendly, flexible, and creative, with the ability to respond quickly to immediate needs from our partners.

CHILDLINE (www.childline.org.uk)

Childline is the UK's free 24-hour helpline for children and young people in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise and protect youngsters who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. However, Childline is suffering from an acute shortage of funds, which could mean that the crucial night service, which often deals with the most desperate children, may have to be shut down as it relies on paid staff rather than volunteers.

HELEN & DOUGLAS HOUSE (www.helenanddouglas.org.uk)

Helen House, which opened in November 1982, was the world's first children's hospice. Helen & Douglas House provide professional care and practical support for children and young people with life-shortening conditions, as well as support for their families. The two houses are bright, vibrant and positive places, focused on bringing some depth and enjoyment to life, often in difficult circumstances.

In addition to telling you about our charities for 2007, here is a recap of all the charities we have supported.

The committee was formed in 2000 when we supported The Zenzelini Wellness Clinic which provided much-needed work amongst HIV/AIDS sufferers in our link parish of Galashewe. We also made donations to Telemed and the Children’s Society with a total of £4958 being given.

2001 - In addition to continued support for Zenzelini, we supported the Youth Enquiry Service in High Wycombe and the Church Urban Fund. Donations of £5800 were made.

2002 - We again supported Zenzelini but the remaining money went to support a visit from the Galashewe youth choir. Donation to Zenzelini was £900.

2003 - A total of £6000 was donated to a USPG project (St Anne's Hospital, Nkhotakota), Maplewood School Pool Appeal (for disabled children) and Marlow District Guide Hut Building Appeal (for rebuilding after a fire).

2004 - Four charities, Water Aid, Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home and our own Lighthouse shared £6000.

2005 - We gave £5600 to Street Children Aid Pro Deo, the Child Bereavement Trust and Age Concern.

Finally, in 2006, a single donation was made to John Humphrey’s Kitchen Table Charity, with the remaining money being used in the parish to support local mission work.

Each year, we aim to help 3 charities, 1 international, 1 national and 1 local and try to identify smaller charities where our donations may make a significant difference.
