MUSIC AT All SAINTS' WEB SITE

Music plays a very important part in the life of the church here, both in worship, where there is a wide range of opportunities for anyone with enthusiasm and commitment to make a valuable contribution, and in concerts and other presentations for the wider community. We are blessed with a very fine three-manual "Father" Willis organ, recently thoroughly overhauled by Mander Organs (the company responsible also for the renovation of the "Father" Willis organ in the Royal Albert Hall) and a good Bechstein grand piano. An excellent sound system has recently been installed and the acoustics generally are very congenial for music, whether choral or instrumental.

This page gives an brief overview; further details may be found by clicking the bottom of the page. If you require even more information, or think you might be interested in joining one of our groups, please don't hesitate to contact the Parish Office (01628 481806 or e-mail parishoffice.marlowteam@btinternet.com), or submit an enquiry form.

MEN AND BOYS' CHOIR

This Choir is for Men and Boys who relish the excitement and challenge of singing choral services in a traditional robed choir. Rehearsals take place once a week for the Men and twice a week for the Boys, who follow the RSCM “Voice for Life” scheme. The Choir sings at Evensong each Sunday at 6.30 p.m. (once a month the service is a Cathedral-style fully choral Evensong), at Choral Eucharist on the First Sunday of each month at 9.30 a.m. and on many other special occasions.

Five Probationer Probationer Boy Choristers joined us this autumn, but we are still pleased to welcome new recruits in all sections (boys should preferably be between 7½ and 11 years of age) and auditions are very friendly!

Congratulations to FREDDIE RICKETTS and BENJI TUTHILL, who have both gained their Bishop's Chorister Award (Silver), and will receive their Certificates at a special Evensong in Christchurch Cathedral in November. Well done!

FREDDIE RICKETTS has now joined the Alto Section, his voice having sunk rather, and BENJI TUTHILL has been appointed Head Chorister in his place, with ROSS HONEY Deputy Head Chorister. We congratulate these two boys on their promotion and thanks Freddie for his excellent service as a Boy Chorister.

CHORAL EVENSONG will next be sung on SUNDAY, 28TH FEBRUARY, at 6.30 p.m., when the Men & Boys will be joined by the Girls' Choir. Music will include Herbert Howells' Collegium Regale setting of the Canticles and Maurice Greene's matchless anthem "Lord, let me know mine end".

For full details, click below - the current and previous Music Lists can be accessed from the Home Page: click on "All Saints' Calendar".

THE MIXED-VOICE CHOIR

The Mixed-Voice Choir sings at the Sung Eucharist on the third and fourth Sunday mornings at 9.30 a.m. (and also on fifth Sundays when these occur). The Choir sings for various special occasions, too, such as the Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday and Easter Morning, when special music is always included. New members are always welcome. See below for more details.

Many of the Choir are now following the R.S.C.M.'s "Voice for Life" scheme and we extend hearty congratulations to GILLIAN CRUSE, who recently gained her Bishop's Chorister Award at Silver Level. This is a great achievement - well done!

GABRIELLE SMITH, who has directed the Choir since its inception in 1991, has now felt it appropriate to relinquish that responsibility, and we thank her wholeheartedly for the marvellous dedication and care she has shown over that time. Well done, Gabrielle - we shall miss you, but wish you well.

THE GIRLS' CHOIR

The Girls' Choir was formed early in 2002 to work in parallel with the Boys' Choir, but independently and with its own identity. There are currently 15 members and rehearsals take place once a week during school term times. The Choir sings at one or two morning services each month, both in its own right and in support of other groups, and occasionally at Evensong with the Men. Again, the RSCM "Voice for Life" scheme is followed (there are currently three Bishop's Choristers) and new recruits aged 8 upwards are always welcome. Thanks to a generous bequest by Enid Jones, the Full Choristers are now fully robed.

The Girls will next be singing with the Men at CHORAL EUCHARIST on SUNDAY, 7TH FEBRUARY at 9.30 a.m. Music will include "O for a closer walk with God" by Grayston Ives, and Paul Stubbings' energetic setting of the Benedicite.

Congratulations to CAITLIN LAWRENCE, ISABELLA & PHOEBE MANSELL, who recently achieved Distinction in their Bishop's Chorister examinations (Bronze Level). Well done, too, to ALICE ARMES & LUCY WILSON, who have now passed all their tests to become Full Choristers. Well done, Girls!

Several Probationer Girls have joined us this autumn, but we are always pleased to welcome more new recruits, and auditions are very friendly and non-threatening! The age-range is currently between 8½ and 14, so do get in touch (01628 481806 or e-mail parishoffice.marlowteam@btinternet.com) if you are interested.

OTHER MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES

There are various other groups contributing music to the more informal services such as ENCOUNTER and TGIS. These include THE WORSHIP GROUP and a number of instrumentalists. We are always pleased to hear from anyone who can offer musical skills to the enrichment of our worship.
